
Engineering Manager Data Management
As an Engineering Manager of Data Management at Nationale Nederlanden (NN), you will help shape the digital transformation of one of the Netherlands’ largest insurance companies. What you’re going to do
As a born leader, making people feel empowered while steering them through major company changes comes naturally to you. Together with a team of professionals ranging from engineers, business analysts and solution designers, you will encourage robust product engineering practices. As our Engineering Manager of Data Management, you will help our engineers bring out the best in themselves. You will act as an enabler for our digital transformation by focusing on the professional development of our engineers so that they can deploy their true talent instead of being bogged down by operational product issues. Your responsibilities will also include:
- Using your technical experience in Azure (Microsoft) Purview, Databricks (Unity Catalog), Power BI Premium, Power BI Gateway, Collibra and Data Quality solutions to develop our engineers’ knowledge
- Managing NN’s People Cycle process and using HR processes and tools to manage staffing, including selection, hiring, onboarding and retention
- Establishing objectives and quarterly key results on learning and development together with the department leadership team
- Creating strategic workforce planning in line with the product strategy and empowering teams by removing department-level impediments
- Helping our engineers to develop their knowledge in the areas of security, compliance and Cloud (Azure/AWS) infrastructure and management
What we offer you

- a monthly salary between €5.330 and €7.615 depending on your experience, based on a 36-hour workweek, excluding a 13th month and holiday allowance.

- 194.4 hours of leave, based on a 36-hour week (that’s 27 vacation days for a 5-day working week) and one Diversity Day
- A holiday allowance and a 13th month, paid with your monthly salary
- An NS Business Card and/or compensation for commuting costs
While you’ll officially be based in The Hague, we work hybrid at NN. We combine working from home and working in the office and our teams meet online or in person. You and your team will agree on what suits you best. We have set up our offices in such a way that there is a suitable place for every type of work.
Who you are
You are a positive person with an unending enthusiasm to inspire others. With a knack for understanding people’s perspectives and ambitions, your talent is helping others to learn and grow. Open to ideas, you have an entrepreneurial mindset. You are looking for a challenge and want to make your mark by helping us build our data and AI service. Strong communication skills in English are a must as you’ll be required to mentor and coach our international team of engineers while encouraging cooperation within the team and managing senior stakeholders. You will also have to provide feedback about the effectiveness of your team and do presentations. Furthermore, you have:
- At least 10 years of relevant work experience as an engineer
- At least 3 years of experience leading and managing a team of engineers
- You know the latest technologies in the data management domain and are familiar with data management concepts such as data modelling, data governance, data security, data quality, metadata management, data integration and data analytics (BI)
